A new running segment here at Brew Hops will be our blind taste-tasting of a different style of beer every week(ish) with our exclusive group of talented taste-testers, aka argumentative pricks. This weekend we'll be starting with the very seasonal Pumpkin Ale, and will be looking to narrow down a list to six (or seven, or eight) for practical purposes. Any particular brews you'd like to recommend? All beers have to have SOME NYC focus, i.e. either be from northeastern/Atlantic breweries or be readily, or somewhat, available in NYC bars or beer shops. The great part about this rule as that if I can find it, it automatically qualifies! I'll start us off with some nominations:
Weyerbacher's Imperial Pumpkin
Elysian's the Great Pumpkin and Night Owl Pumpkin (yes Elysian brews 2 pumpkin ales, yes I tried them both at Blind Tiger, yes one is a Charle Brown reference and the other a quite possibly probably almost certainly not Watchmen reference).
Dogfish Head Punkin' Ale
Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale
Post Road Pumpkin Ale (Brooklyn Brewery)
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale
Bluemoon Pumpkin
Southern Tier's Pumking Imperial Pumpkin Ale (not that I've seen it in New York...but...a deacon can dream?)
Thoughts?
